POETRY
• The art of rhythmical composition, written or
spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful,
imaginative, or elevated thoughts

Three main genres of poetry


1. Lyric
2. Narrative
3. dramatic
LYRIC
• Is especially song like and emotional.
Sonnets and Odes are examples of
poems that are lyrical in nature. Lyric
poems focuses more on personal
emotions, attitudes, and the author’s
state of mind.
NARRATIVE POETRY
• Tells a story, usually of human
interest, and includes the epic, which
is long story, and the ballad, which
was original meant to be sung while
dancing
DRAMATIC POETRY
• Is any drama that is written in verse that is
meant to be recited. It usually tells a story
or refers to a situation. This would include
closet drama, dramatic monologues, and
rhyme verse.
EXAMPLE;

DRAMA
• Is the specific mode of fiction represented
in performance.
• The term “drama” comes from the Greek
word Meaning “action”
Drama is often combined with music and
dance: drama in opera is generally sung
throughout; musicals generally include both
spoken dialogue and songs.
CREATIVE NON
FICTION
• Also known as literary non-fiction or narrative
non-fiction
• A genre of writing that uses literary styles and
techniques to create factually accurate narratives.
• It can be an essay, journal article, poem.
• The word “creative and non fiction describe the
form. The word “non fiction” refers to the use of
literary craft, factually accurate prose about real
people and events, in a compelling, vivid,
dramatic manner.
BLOGS
• Is a discussion or informal website
published on the Word Wide Web
consisting if discrete, often informal
diary-style text entries (posts)

CHICK LIT
SPECULATIVE FICTION
• an umbrella genre encompassing 
narrative fiction with supernatural or
futuristic elements. This includes the
genres science fiction, fantasy, horror
 and supernatural fiction, as well as
their combinations.
Speculative fiction genres

• Utopia
• Dystopia
• Apocalyptic/post apocalyptic

FANTASY
• Includes elements and beings from
human cultural imagination, such as 
mythical creatures (dragons and fairies,
for example), magic and magical
elements
SCIENCE FICTION
• Features technologies that do not exist in
real life (but may be supposed to do in the
future), including time travel, 
interstellar travel, flying cars and also
beings and societies from other planets
(aliens).
HORROR
• Somewhat similar to fantasy, but focusing
on terrifying, evil and often powerful
beings, such as monsters and ghosts. Also
aims to transmit actual fear and confusion
to the reader/watcher.
UTOPIA
• Takes place in a highly desirable
society, often presented as advanced,
happy, intelligent or even perfect or
problem-free.
DYSTOPIA
• Takes place in a highly undesirable
society, often plagued with strict
control, violence, chaos,
brainwashing and other negative
elements.
APOCALYPTIC
• Takes place before and during a
massive, worldwide disaster.
POST APOCALYPTIC
• Focuses on groups of survivors
after a massive, typically
worldwide disaster.
SUPERHERO
• Centers on superheroes ( heroes with
extraordinary abilities or powers) and
their fight against Evil forces.
Typically incorporates elements of
science fiction and/or fantasy, and
may be a subgenre of them.
