PPCC:POLYMER PORTLAND

CEMENT CONCRETE
MIRUDHULA
WHAT IS PPCC ?

 Polymer cement concrete is a composite concrete that consist of

synthetic polymer within the binding material. Polymer concrete has
advantages of higher properties, low energy requirements and low labor
costs. It is also called as Polymer Portland cement concrete (PPCC) or
latex-modified concrete (LMC).
 Polymer Portland cement concrete is a conventional Portland cement
concrete which is usually made by replacing a part of the mixing water
with a latex ( polymer emulsion ).
 The ingredients compromising cement invented by John smeaton ,
aggregates and monomer are mixing with water and monomer in the
concrete mix is polymerized after placing concrete in position .
THE RESULTANT CONCRETE HAS IMPROVED :

 Strength
 Adhesion
 Chemical resistance
 Impact resistance
 Abrasion resistance
 Increased impermeability
 Reduced absorption
APPLICATIONS :

 Repair to corrosion damaged concrete.

 Prestressed concrete.
 Nuclear power plants.
 Electrical or industrial construction.
 Marine works.
 Prefabricated structural components like acid tanks, manholes,
drains, highway median barriers, and so forth.
 Waterproofing of structures.
 used in patching and overlaying deteriorated bridge decks
