Much like tales of old, there are many different
strings and strands that tell you story. Each setback
and success are vital as you build your way to
Introduction purpose and success in life. Having an intuitive
connection with themes that drive you as well as a
higher understanding of what it is that gives you
purpose is an incomparable asset to have. To know
one’s purpose is to know one’s self.
Research Process and Methods
Themes
be? It would be a safe bet to say that you would see a
recurring theme in your story. What follows are a few of
my prevailing themes.
Theme I
Theme Statement: I need to have what I am doing fulfill me.
Supporting Data:
Reflection- Recently, this has been the most important question that I have asked myself continuously. After
working in a career field for over ten years and realizing that it is not what gives me purpose, I changed. Moving
into the next phase of life is made possible by this essential need for fulfillment.
Theme II
Theme Statement: I require that what I am doing equitably compensates me financially.
Supporting Data:
• In my Works Values, Income was rated as the second highest rating in the inventory. (KWVI)
• According to my Kruder Interest Assessment, pathways in which I can tap my Enterprising side interest me the most. But
at the same time, this Enterprising side can equip me with a way to dictate my pay. (KCI)
• Another easy one that applies to the Three Questions exercise by Susan Cain, the answer to my desired financial
compensation is determined by what career will pay such an amount. (3QS)
Reflection- There ware a few ways that organizations show their appreciation to their workers; the best of which is financially. I
understand my value and know that the career path I am working towards allows me to determine my compensation. While I
am willing to compromise, I don’t think I can be party to an organization exploiting me via inadequate compensation. Plus, I
need to save for that retirement fund.
Theme III
Theme Statement: I need to maintain a free spirit.
Supporting Data:
Reflection- I have a great deal of loyalty, as I will touch on later in my themes. But there is something so desirable
about not staying tied to one organization or workplace too long. I am mercenary type attitude and like to stay on the
move ready for different challenges. This also helps explain my desire to be an attorney so that I can be within while
being without.
Theme IV
Theme Statement: I need a qualified sense of autonomy.
Supporting Data:
• My interfaces at work as explained in my WorkStyle assessment are those in the Leadership and Management
sections. Each of them require you as the leader to be autonomous in a lot of scenarios. (WSPF)
• According to my Kruder Skills Confidence Assessment, my highest interest is social which is highly dependent on
mutuality. (KSCA)
• In my Works Values, Independence was rated as the third highest rating in the inventory. (KWVI)
Reflection- I am a team player. I love working with groups. But, I know I strive the most when I know that an assignment
had a start, middle, and end. I have felt sometimes in previous situations that my lack of autonomy has led me to resent
my work. I know that I can leverage my skills in other scenarios while maintaining independence.
Theme V
Theme Statement: I am motivated by personal and professional growth.
Supporting Data:
• According to my Enneagram, I need to continually achieve things for achievement and success. If I am not growing, I am not
succeeding. (ER)
• According to my Kruder Interest Assessment, pathways in which I can tap my Enterprising side interest me the most. Being
able to enterprise will consistently provide me with ways to achieve new things. Such as gaining new clients at my firm.
(KCI)
• While reading The Alchemist, it was constantly pushing growth. I highly ascribed to that message and believe it central to
who I am. (IBP)
Reflection- There are very few situations that excite me more than when I learn something new or see progress. Growth has never
been more important to me than it is now. Professional and personal growth are what drives me to keep trying every day or so.
Theme VI
Theme Statement: Loyalty is of the utmost importance.
Supporting Data:
• As an ENFP, a lot of my journey is dependent on building and sustaining connections and relationships. This
cannot be done without a level of trust and loyalty to one another. (MBTI)
• According to my Kruder Interest Assessment, the Enterprising interest include factors like social influence
and control. These can be made possible in genuine fashion via loyalty. (KCI)
Reflection- Something that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, is that many organizations are not always equipped
to stick by workers without relief aid. The massive wave of resignations and career switches(which I am a part of) is
testament to that. I need to feel like my loyalty is being reciprocated by my organizations and work associates.
Theme VII
Theme Statement: I desire a work/life balance that sustains me.
Supporting Data:
• As part of my Work Values results, Independence is ranked as my third highest followed by lifestyle at 5. Each play into how I
like to have balance in all forms throughout my life or work. (KWVI)
• According to my Kruder Interest Assessment, pathways in which I can tap my Enterprising interest by doing things like creating
my own schedule and setting limits to how much work follows me. There will be times where work must be prolonged, but
there should also be times when work can be supplemented if needed. (KCI)
• In the Three Questions exercise by Susan Cain, the question of fulfillment can only be answered for me is I am in a situation
where life is not my work and work is not my life. (3QS)
Reflection- I have been in scenarios where I was working two or more jobs and placing my balance low on my list. Each of those
situations have ended the same way with no desire to return. Life should not be about work or continually focused on work, at least
for me. Finding a situation where I can set boundaries and have limits would benefit me the most.
Theme VIII
Theme Statement: I need to be in a situation where I can lead.
Supporting Data:
• Part of gaining my Certification in Performance Excellence was being able to take what I have learned about PM and move
towards a more teaching or consultation role for other professionals who desired the skills. (CPE)
• As part of my Work Values results, Prestige is ranked as my highest value. For me, with leadership come prestige. I value the
ability to be look upon as a trusted source or integral strategic mind for leadership. (KWVI)
• In the Three Questions exercise by Susan Cain, being fulfilled can be attained via leadership. I have always felt at my best when
leading, working towards that as a goal helps. (3QS)
Reflection- Through numerous situational and relational affirmations, I am a leader. Ever since I was a kid, people have had a trust in
me to lead them, and I have tried my best to lead in a strategic and beneficial way. I do not want to conflate leadership with being in
charge. I do not have to be in charge, but a level of leadership is desirable. Mostly because with leadership comes an opportunity to
collaborate.
Theme IX
Theme Statement: I must be given the opportunity to solve problems.
Supporting Data:
• According to my Enneagram, I need to continually achieve things or accomplish them. The constant desire to have more, means
more challenges. I thrive as a 3 and as a person when I work towards solving a problem. (ER)
• As part of my Work Values results, Achievement is ranked as my fourth highest value. When I am achieving something at work or
in my personal life, it makes me feel worth it or fulfilled. Otherwise, without problems to solve, my complacency becomes resent
for my work. (KWVI)
• In the Keirsey Personality Test, it identified my temperament type as rational. This pragmatic and strategic manner of thinking or
approach is well-suited for leading change or solving problems. (KPT)
Reflection- As described in the KPT, "Rational’s have an insatiable hunger to accomplish their goals and will work tirelessly on any project
they have set their mind to”. This is a succinct way to describe my approach to life and work. I do not like the dispassionate feeling that
comes with work at times. The best way that I have learned to combat this is through purposeful problem solving and change leading.
Theme X
Theme Statement: I must have or build a connection with people.
Supporting Data:
• As it is with all ENFP’s, our natural inclination to campaign for a goal or purpose intrinsically means that we are connected
and in contact with people. Naturally social being gives us an almost insatiable need to interact with others. (ER)
• Additionally, my Kruder Interest Assessment indicates that Social Interests are second to Enterprising. Having those two
working in conjunction with one another will inevitably lead to highly social pathways. (KCI)
• According to my Kruder Skills Confidence Assessment, my highest interest is Social interests. By helping other succeed via
connections while developing and growing human connections, I can solve problems. (KSCA)
Reflection- I love people. I love the networks and connections we build. The only way you can grow as a person is to build those
connections. Having a career where I can interact with a diverse cast of characters is very, very appealing to me. I especially like
taking my people to the places I go. Having those connections will make it all the more meaningful.
