TAIJI: A BRIEF HISTORY

OF DAIST TRADITIONAL
TAIJI QUAN
 It was started from our grandmaster Zheng Man Qing who
had in his early years learned the Taiji of Yang’s Style and
subsequently developed the art of Taiji into the Zheng’s
Style of Taiji.
 The Zheng’s Style of Taiji was basically a shorter version
of the Yang’s Style with the longer version of 108 steps
being shortened to 37 steps by Grandmaster Zheng Man
Qing. The mean purpose was to ensure wider access to the
public in terms of promotion for a healthy exercise.
 The Daist Traditional Taiji which is what we are teaching and
learning now is the continuing efforts undertaken by our late Master
Wu who was the disciple of Grandmaster Zheng.
 Currently, the Daist Traditional Taiji has spread its wings to many
countries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Indonesia,
Singapore and Malaysia with its Headquarter based in Taiwan.
 The Daoist Traditional Taiji has established several branches in
Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak with its Headquarter in
Kuala Lumpur.
