PPB Licenses
•From the PPB you will require two licenses
• License to operate (superintend)
• Premises registration.
•The cost will depend on the size of the premises, the county and
location within the county. Around Kshs.20, 000.
Importation
•Once an importer identifies the medicine he wants to import then he
brings in samples and the supporting documentation to the PPB.
•The PPB takes the sample to The National Quality Control Laboratory
which tests and examines the medicine.
•If the medicine passes the test then it’s registered, and can now bring in
large quantities and distribute.
•There are companies and individuals who help in providing support for

Wholesalers and Suppliers
•Compare prices between the different wholesalers.
•Area near junction of Accra Road and River Road Nairobi also has
a number of wholesalers
Stocking
•One of the easiest ways Is using Kenya Essential Medicines List.
The medicine is classified as Vital, Essential and Non Essential
depending on how crucial they are.
•Go to a wholesaler to guide.
•40% of sales will be over the counter medicine, with the rest being
prescriptions.
•There is also the issue of whether to buy generics or brand names
commonly known as originals.
