Each file in a computer has to be given a name to identify it.
A file name in Windows usually consists of two parts: the name and the extension, separated by a dot. The extension tells you and the computer what type of file it is. When you click on the file to open it, the computer then knows which program is needed to open the file. When naming files you you must always use lowercase letters only. Folders
Folders are used to hold documents, files and other folders. A
folder is similar to a manual filing cabinet, in that one drawer of the cabinet can contain further folders, rather than merely files or documents directly. To create a folder on the desktop: 1. Right click the mouse in any clear area on the desktop. 2. When the pop – up menu appears select New. 3. Select folder from the menu that appears. 4. A folder icon appears on the desktop and you can give it a name. Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer is a function of a PC's operating system
that enables you to look at all the files and folders stored on your system. To to create a folder in Windows Explorer With the Windows Explorer window open, select File and click on New, or Right click in a a clear area in the Explorer window and select New from the pop – up menu.
