AN INTRODUCTION TO WRITING

Guidelines:

• Writing process- brain storming, branching and looping, triple


viewing

• Consider your purpose for reading, understanding the context,


looking up words and references, questions, note-taking, review

• Use strategies that help expand your writing, research and thinking
skills
STRATEGIES

1- Annotating the text- underlining key information , examples, evidence, comments


2- Write exploratory responses- creating own argument after reading , making connections with
what reader learned
3- Use reading for invention- to generate new ideas
4- Keep a double-entry journal- 2 columns, one column with text citations and the other column has
reader’s reactions and responses to those passages, ideas and quotes

Activity: Read an article, annotate and create a double-entry journal
