• Perbedaan This, These, That, dan Those dalam
Bahasa Inggris
• This, these, that, dan those merupakan salah
satu jenis determiner atau kata penentu untuk
merujuk suatu noun (nomina; kata benda).
Keempat kata tersebut mungkin terdengar mirip
dan pastinya telah familier di telinga kita.
Namun, apakah kita benar-benar mengetahui
perbedaan dan dapat menggunakan kata-kata
tersebut secara benar dalam kaidah berbahasa
Inggris?

• THIS digunakan untuk merujuk pada sebuah
benda (tunggal), yang secara fisik pun benda
tersebut terletak tidak jauh dari si penunjuk.
Bila diterjemahkan, this dapat berarti “ini”.
• Contoh:
• This glass is empty.
• I hate this assignment so much.
• This five-star hotel is very expensive
• These
• THESE digunakan untuk merujuk pada benda yang
jumlahnya lebih dari satu. Mudahnya, kita bisa
menganggap bahwa these merupakan bentuk jamak dari
this.
• Contoh:
• I can’t eat all of these donuts by myself. Please, help me
finish them.
• These books are rare and very expensive.
• Danny said he’s going to take care these
• It’s impossible to find a good babysitter these
• One of these kids is allergic to seafood.
• That
• THAT digunakan untuk merujuk pada sebuah benda
(tunggal), yang secara fisik pun benda tersebut
terletak jauh dari si penunjuk. Bila diterjemahkan,
that dapat berarti “itu”.
• Contoh:
• That house has been empty for a long time and
people say it’s haunted.
• I can’t believe you let that thief escape.
• Don’t worry, mom already took care that
• That plan is already moot in the first place.
• Who’s that pretty boy sitting by himself over there?
• Those
• THOSE digunakan untuk merujuk pada benda yang
jumlahnya lebih dari satu. Sehingga kita bisa menganggap
bahwa those merupakan bentuk jamak dari that.
• Contoh:
• Those cakes look delicious. Can I have a piece, Mom?
• Those angry people are demonstrating in front of the
mayor’s office.
• Who are those pretty guys? They’re so skinny and tall. I
bet they’re boyband members.
• I bet those posters would look great on my bedroom wall.
• Dice those garlics, please. I need to saute them for my
cooking.
