pump is a machine or device that is used to force a fluid to flow in a particular direction in the
delivery line.
Main parts
1. Impeller
2. Casing
3. Suction pipe with a foot valve and strainer
4. Delivery pipe
Working
1. As the electric motor starts rotating, it also rotates the
impeller. The rotation of the impeller creates suction at the
suction pipe. Due to suction created the water from the
sump starts coming to the casing through the eye of the
impeller.
2. From the eye of the impeller, due to the centrifugal force
acting on the water, the water starts moving radially
outward and towards the outer of casing.
3. Since the impeller is rotating at high velocity it also rotates
the water around it in the casing. The area of the casing
increasing gradually in the direction of rotation, so the
velocity of the water keeps on decreasing and the pressure
increases, at the outlet of the pump, the pressure is
maximum.
4. Now form the outlet of the pump, the water goes to its
desired location through delivery pipe.
1. A cylinder with piston, piston rod, connecting rod
and a crank.
2. Suction pipe,
3. Delivery pipe,
4. Suction valve,
5. Delivery valve and
6. Air vessel.
During suction stroke, the piston moves backward and
this opens the suction valve making the water enter into
the cylinder.
During suction the delivery valve remains closed and no
water is discharged through it.
After suction stroke, the piston moves forward, delivery
valve gets open and suction valve come into close
position.
As the piston moves forward it exerts thrust force on the
liquid and it starts escaping out of the cylinder through
delivery pipe.
The water from the delivery pipes reaches to its required
destination.
