MODERN TRENDS IN

ENGINEERING

INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING
TECHNOLOGY
• Engineering technology is used to test efficiency, improve design and solve problems
relating to engineering and manufacturing. Engineering Technology is a branch of
engineering education that emphasizes the practical aspects of engineering rather than
abstract concepts or theories. It is a blend of the application of science, engineering
knowledge, and technical skills used in support of engineering activities.
ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY TRENDS

• Industry 4.0: The Fourth Industrial Revolution

• 5G connectivity
• Internet of Things (IoT) sensors
• Smart city planning and design
• Automation, M2M (Machine-to-Machine), and H2M (Human-to-Machine)
• Engineering design with AR, VR, and MR
• Cybersecurity engineering and risk management
INDUSTRY 4.0: THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

• What is Industry 4.0? The Fourth

Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) is
the ongoing automation and data
exchange in manufacturing and
industrial processes, using modern smart
technology. Just as the previous three
industrial revolutions, which began in
the late eighteenth century, brought about
great changes to our lives.
5G CONNECTIVITY

• Experts expect 20 billion connected IoT

devices by 2023 representing millions of
usually low-cost devices with long battery
lives that can transmit non-delay-sensitive
data. 5G will also allow what’s called
ultra reliable and low latency connectivity,
which is required for critical applications
like traffic safety, remote surgery, or
precise positioning for industrial uses.
INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT) SENSORS

• Internet of Things (IOT) and sensor

technology are robust and fast-growing
technologies in the current construction
sector. The ever-evolving building industry
can undoubtedly reap enormous advantages
using these technologies. The worker’s safety,
cost reduction, and predictive maintenance
are among some of the compelling benefits.
SMART CITY PLANNING AND DESIGN

• A smart city is a technologically modern urban area that uses different types of
electronic methods, voice activation methods and sensors to collect specific data.
Information gained from that data are used to manage assets, resources and
services efficiently; in return, that data is used to improve the operations across the
city. Consultancy for smart city projects brings together expertise in planning, GIS,
architecture, infrastructure, engineering services, and project management. During
the planning stage the team envisages the priorities of the projects, conducts
meetings with all the stakeholders to discuss our requirements and expectations
from them, and explain our strategy and plan to develop the project.
AUTOMATION, M2M (MACHINE-TO-MACHINE),
AND H2M (HUMAN-TO-MACHINE)
• Through Automation, M2M (Machine-
to-Machine), and H2M (Human-to-
Machine) Automation is one of the
most vital aspects of future
industries. The new generation of
robotics will be easier to program
and easier to use.
ENGINEERING DESIGN WITH AR, VR, AND MR

Innovative engineering companies
increasingly use virtual reality (VR),
augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality
(MR) in engineering design, visualization,
and stakeholder engagement. VR is
immersive and can be used in an office,
whereas AR and MR augments, or adds
to, real-world viewing by overlaying 3D
models or holograms on top of reality.
CYBERSECURITY ENGINEERING AND RISK
MANAGEMENT
While cybersecurity risks within the
construction industry may be growing, they can
be remediated. Implementing training and
prevention techniques with all staff including
those working for contractors or
subcontractors is vital, as is addressing any
issues as soon as they happen. Ultimately, it’s
important to recognize and understand that
cyber risks exist within the construction
industry, and that preventive methods can be
put into place.
