Grains
food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal,
barley, or another cereal grain is a grain
product. Bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, grits,
and tortillas are examples of grain products.
Foods such as popcorn, rice, and oatmeal are
also included in the Grains Group

Vegetables
Vegetables are organized into 5 subgroups based on
their nutrient content: dark-green vegetables, beans
and peas, starchy vegetables, red and orange
vegetables, and other vegetables. Vegetables are an
important part of a healthy eating pattern and are
excellent sources of many nutrients, including
potassium, fiber, folate (folic acid) and vitamins A,
E and C
