PRESENTATION ON COVID 19

 An out break of corona virus disease

(COVID19)caused by novel Corona
virus begin in Wuhan, Hubei Province
,China in December 2019,and has
spread through out China and 31
other countries and territories,
including united States.
Virus And Transmission
How easily the virus is transmitted between person is currently
unclear.

 Person to person spread of COVID 19 appears to

occur mainly by respiratory transmission, the
virus can spread from one person to another,
most likely through droplets of saliva or mucus
carried in the air for up to six feet or so when an
infected person coughs or sneezes. Viral particles
may be breathed in, land on surfaces that people
touch, or be transferred when shaking hands or
sharing a drink with someone who has the virus.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

 Sore throat
 Fever
 Cough
 Headache
 Shortness of breath
 Pneumonia
IS THERE A VACCINE AGAINST THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS?

 Currently there are no available vaccine that protect against novel coronavirus.
PRECAUTIONS

Please follow and publish the following guidelines in

educational institutions to prevent infection:
 1. Hand hygiene: cleaning hands for at least 20 seconds
 2. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
 3. cough and sneeze etiquette: covering the mouth with inner
elbow or by using tissue papers instead of hands
 4. Making sure of availability of hand sanitizer.
Waste Management
Waste Management

 Waste management include the activities and actions required to

manage waste from its inception to its final disposal.

 Waste is potentially hazardous and if not disposed of correctly can

result in injury or infection. All staff are responsible for the safe
management and disposal of waste and should understand how
waste should be segregated and stored prior to collection or
disposal.
Types of waste

1. General waste(blue , black or white)

2. Medical waste (Yellow)
3.Anatomical waste (Red)
4.Recycling waste( green)
Waste Management
Responsibilities
 Staff in General Practice have a responsibility for ensuring that waste is
dealt with appropriately from the point of generation to the point of final
disposal.
 It Should be :
 Correctly segregated
 Appropriately labelled
 Packaged appropriately for transportation
 Stored safely and in a secure place away from areas of public access
within the premise
 Described accurately and fully on the accompanying documentation
when removed from the premise
 Transferred to an authorized waste contractor for transport to an
authorized waste disposal site . All staff should be trained and aware of
waste procedures.
Disposal of waste
 All waste should be segregated correctly as per your local policy
and in accordance with your waste contractor.
 • When handling waste, appropriate personal protective equipment
(PPE) should be worn.
 • All waste bags should be no more than 2/3 full. This allows enough
space for the bag to be tied using a suitable plastic zip tie or
secure knot.
 • Waste bags should be labelled with the address and date prior to
collection by the waste contractor (some waste contractors may
undertake this) to ensure traceability if an incident occurs.
 • When handling tied waste bags, only hold the bag by the neck
and keep at arms length to reduce the risk of injury in case a sharp
item has been inappropriately disposed of in the bag.
 • If a waste bag awaiting collection is torn, the torn bag and
contents should be placed inside a new waste bag. 4. Assessing
waste for segregation General Practice waste should be assessed
by the member of staff at the time.

PPE : Personal Protective
Equipment
Techniques of using PPE

 Putting on PPE:
 Clean your hands first either with soap and
water or sanitizers
 Wear the Gown, first
 Mask and eye protection, second
 Gloves, last
Cleaning and Disinfection
 • Keep classrooms, kitchens, canteens, toilets and bathrooms clean and hygienic.
 • School management is advised to maintain good hygienic standard of the school
premises through thorough cleansing and disinfection daily
 • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, furniture, toys, commonly shared
items and floor at least daily by using appropriate disinfectant.
 • If places are contaminated by respiratory secretions, vomitus or excreta, use strong
absorbent disposable towels to wipe them away. Then disinfect the surface and the
neighboring area with appropriate disinfectant. Cleaning staff should wear appropriate PPE
if infectious diseases is suspected.
GENERAL CLEANING IN FACILITIES

 • Routine surface cleaning that helps to eliminate the microbes from

frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as toys, refrigerator
handles, desks, and door knobs, faucets, childcare facilities, schools,
workplaces, and other settings where people regularly gather.
 • Cleaning surfaces:
 1. Clean all surfaces, frequently touched surfaces and floors, with
bleach. Bleach can be used as a disinfectant for cleaning and
disinfection (dilute 1 part bleach in 50 parts water, or 1000 ppm).
Bleach solutions should be prepared fresh. Leaving the bleach solution
for a contact time of at least 10 minutes is recommended.
 2. Alcohol (e.g. isopropyl 70%, ethyl alcohol 60%) can be used to wipe
down surfaces where the use of bleach is not suitable, e.g. metal.
Preventive measures – Common method for
cleaning
 Common practices
• First step is to clean yourself and hand using soap and water
• Wear the appropriate gloves
• Wear the mask appropriately
• Use appropriate cleaning solutions, bleach, disinfectants at the right proportion instructed in the manufactures
manual – Supervisor should monitor the mixing procedures with appropriate PPE
• After spraying the disinfectants on to a particular surface, wait till 10 minutes at least to let it affect, before
wiping and cleaning the area with cloths.
• Special care be taken to items like the door handles, computer keyboards, switch boards, and commonly used
items like phones, pens, markers, board erasers etc.
• Once these above items are cleaned, Start from the higher and more touch prone areas in the cleaning area to
the floor at the last.
• At the floor start from the furthers corner and work the way to the exit door. Once thoroughly cleaned, do not
enter the area till the disinfectant have fully dry and appropriately affected.
Preventive measures – Cleaning the surfaces

 Surfaces

 If surfaces are dirty, they should be cleaned using a detergent or soap and water prior to
disinfection.

 After spraying the surface wait at least 10 minutes before wiping

 For disinfection, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70%
alcohol, and most common EPA ( Environmental protection agency)-registered household
disinfectants should be effective.

 Diluted household bleach solutions can be used if appropriate for the surface. Follow manufacturer’s
instructions for application and proper ventilation. Check to ensure the product is not past its expiration
date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach
will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.
Disinfectant calculation:
Disinfectant commonly used in our school:
 1. Chemex Dettol: 1: 25 with water
1 liter of water mix with 25 ml of chemex Dettol
5 liter of water mix with 125 ml of Dettol

 2. Bleach Liquid : 1: 50 with water

1 liter of water mix with 20 ml of bleach
5 liter of water mix with 100 ml of bleach
