Evaluating the printed health

education material for pregnant


women in Indonesia
Background
• Health education plays an important role in improving one health
outcomes and is one strategy for implementing health promotion.
• To provide effective health education, health staff should deliver
health education using a variety of communication channels including
printed health education materials.
• Printed health education materials (HEMs) have been used to
increase awareness and knowledge, change attitudes and beliefs, and
help individuals adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle behaviors (Bull,
et al., 2001).

Aims of the study
1. To evaluate the printed educational material for pregnant women in
Indonesia using PEMAT-p
2. To evaluate the understandability and actionability perceived by
pregnant women in Indonesia (Qual study)
3. To survey the level of use of printed educational material among
pregnant women in Indonesia (quan study)
4. To explore the impact of printed educational material on pregnant
women in Indonesia (qual study)

• Mixed-methods study (using evaluation tools, questionnaire &
interview

Significance of the study
• It is expected the result of the study can provide a picture of the
quality of printed educational material for pregnant women in
Indonesia.
• To provide information on the impact of this printed education
material on pregnant women’s ability to understand the information
and take action related to their pregnancy.
• The result of the study will give recommendations related to what
effective strategies can be implemented to educate pregnant women
in Indonesia to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
