WHAT is BEHAVIOR???
HUMAN BEHAVIOR???
• Behavior refers to the actions or reactions of
an object or organism, usually in relation to
the environment. Behavior can be conscious or
unconscious, overt or covert, and voluntary or
involuntary.
• Human Behavior is the collection of activities
performed by human beings and influenced by
culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics,
authority, persuasion, and or creation.
Influences in Human Behavior
• Reflexes- biologically inherited automatic reactions to
physical stimuli
• Instincts- biologically inherited patterns of behavior to
ensure survival
• Drives- biologically inherited impulses to reduce
discomfort
• Genetics- genes biologically inherited from parents
linked to various traits
• Culture- the shared products social groups that
created channel expression of biological
characteristics
Sociobiology
• It is the study of biological basis of human behavior
• It combines Darwin’s theory of natural selection
with modern genetics.
• Sociologist assumes that behaviors that best help
people are biologically based and transmitted in the
genetic code.
• A growing body of sociologist believe that genes
work with culture in a complex way to shape and
limit nature and social life.
