Intermolecular Forces

of Attraction
Intermolecular Forces
- interaction between molecules.

4 Types of Intermolecular Forces of

Attraction
1. Dipole- Dipole Forces
2. Ion-dipole Forces
3. Dispersion Forces
4. Hydrogen Bond
Dipole- Dipole Forces
- attraction between oppositely charged regions of
a polar molecules.

Example:

Ion-dipole Forces
- exists in the attraction between an ion and a
dipole molecule
- ion can be positively charge or negatively charge.
Dispersion Forces or London Forces
- is the weakest intermolecular forces because
it is temporary attractive force
- often in gases like F2 H2 Cl2 N2 O2

Example:
Hydrogen bond
- is a special type of dipole=dipole
interaction between the hydrogen atom in a
polar molecule and the highly electronegative
atom ( F, O, N ) in another molecule.
