• Machinery such as tractors, headers, air seeders and
vehicles are necessary for farming operations.
• To maintain their value and function, this equipment
should be protected from harsh weather conditions and other elements, and stored in a durable farm machine shed. SITE SELECTION
• Locate the machinery shed convenient to the farm shop and
main traffic flow. • The ideal location is approximately 150 feet behind and to one side of the farm home. • The storage building should be near the farm shop to facilitate equipment servicing. • As with any farm building, the machinery storage should be on high ground with good drainage. • Machinery storage should never be combined with livestock housing because of high moisture levels leading to corrosion problems. PLANNING THE FACILITY
• Know what machinery is to be stored.
• Estimate the floor space requirements for that machinery. • Decide what building type and configuration will best fit your needs. • Determine the size and location of machinery access doors; this establishes traffic patterns. • Analyze the efficiency of several alternative layouts. • Considering equipment traffic patterns, door sizes and locations, and various storage arrangements.
