• Power system network realize different kinds of loads connected to it.
• Reactive loads like transformers, transmission lines etc. introduce a lot of reactive power demand in the network. • The more reactive loads bring phase shift in the voltage and current, the more reactive power is introduced in the transmission line. • Ideally, we would like the reactive power to be zero such that all the generated power is absorbed by the load. • To make the transmission lines efficient, to allow the utilization of maximum generated power, we need to reduce the reactive power demand. Reactive Power Control • Most of the loads are inductive and hence, there is a tendency of current to lag in the power system network. • For the most part in reactive power control, we try to introduce capacitive effect in the line.
