DEVELOPMENT OF INSTITUTIONAL ANTIBIOGRAM ON


GENERAL MEDICINE DEPARTMENT AT TERTIARY CARE
HOSPITAL
INTRODUCTION

• An antibiogram is an overall profile of antimicrobial susceptibility testing results


of a specific microorganism against antimicrobial drugs.
• Antibiogram help guide the clinician and pharmacist in selecting the best empiric
antimicrobial treatment in the event of pending microbiology culture and
susceptibility results.
• They are also useful tools for detecting and monitoring trends in antimicrobial
resistance.
JUSTIFICATION

AIM

• To develop the institutional antibiogram in general medicine department at tertiary


care hospital.
OBJECTIVES

• PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :
To assess the sensitivity pattern of microorganism and develop the antibiogram.
• SECONDARY OBJECTIVE:
To provide evidence based empirical antibiotic treatment to the patients.
METHODOLOGY

• STUDY DESIGN: Ambispective observational study.


• STUDY LOCATON: General medicine department, PSG Hospitals.
• STUDY DURATION: 6 months
• SAMPLE SIZE:
STUDY CRITERIA
INCLUSION CRITERIA :
• Patients with ages between 18- in general medicine.
• Both male and female patients.
• Both inpatients and outpatients.
• Patients with respiratory infections, urinary tract infections and gastrointestinal infections.

EXCLUSION CRITERIA:
• Patient below 18yrs and above
• Patients with viral and fungal infections.
• Pregnant and lactating women.
• Patients who are not willing to participate.
