1. Introduction to Organization Behaviour (OB) – 3 Hrs


a. Concept of OB
i. Organizational behaviour is the study of what an individual thinks feels or does in and around an
organisation, both individually and in a group. It investigates people's emotions and behaviour,
behaviour and performances in a team, systems and structures of organisations
ii. Study of individuals in context of work and teams
iii. Influenced by very many fields (sociology, psychology, economics, engineering, etc)
iv. Journey from industrial revolution, scientific management, human relations movement, later on
became quantitative based (informal organisation and resource dependency)
b. Features of OB
i. Separate field of study and not just a discipline
ii. An inter disciplinary approach
iii. Its an applied science
iv. It’s a normative science
v. Humanistic and Optimistic approach
vi. A total system approach
vii. These features or characteristics show the nature of OB that is study of understanding & control
behaviour within an organization

behaviours conducive to the survival and growth of the firm

d. Fundamental concepts of OB - Organization behaviour is based on few fundamental concepts which
