Does my sassiness offend you? I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
You may write me down in history
Don't take it so hard Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
With your bitter, twisted lies,
’Cause I laugh as if I have gold mines Leaving behind nights of terror and
You may trod me in the very dirt
Digging in my own back yard. fear
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

You may shoot me with your words, Into a daybreak that’s wondrously
Does my sassiness upset you?
You may cut me with your lies, clear
Why are you beset with gloom?
You may kill me with your hatefulness, I rise
