ABSTRACT
A green business, is an enterprise that has minimal negative impact or potentially a positive
effect on the global or local environment, community, society, or economy.
Wipro’s green initiatives includes its internal infrastructure and operations; environment-
friendly products, green computing solutions, and take-back services for its customers; as well
as advocacy for e-waste legislation. Some of the green business initiatives adopted are as
follows:
• Sustainable IT products solutions which helps customers achieve high productivity in
energy.
• Recycled plastics
• Launched greenware range of desktops which are 100% recyclable but also toxin free
• Collects e-waste through starting various recycling centres.
• Wipro introduced an electronic waste clearance service in 2006 for its customers.
• In June 2008, it unveiled an enterprise-wide charter called eco-eye to promote ecologically
sustainable business practices

INTRODUCTION
A BRIEF IDEA ABOUT THE TOPIC AND COMPANY
The goal of green business is to eliminate any negative impact on the environment, on
both a local and global scale. A green company takes a proactive approach to mWipro
Limited, an Indian multinational corporation which provides information technology,
consulting and business process services. It is headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka,
India. In 2013, Wipro separated its non-IT businesses and formed the privately owned
Wipro Enterprises.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
We need to focus on our environmental issues and help reduce them in order to live a
healthy and happier life on this planet. Running a green business comes down to
caring about your impact on the environment, the community, and people. Not only
does a green business make the world a better place, but you target a large audience
dedicated to ethical consumerism, which helps your business thrive.
OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

▪ To understand the impact of these green business activities on the environment
METHODOLOGY
A transition from the extensive type of economic development to sustainable should
provide the minimization of the non-renewable natural resources use and effective
use of renewable ones, improvement of environmental quality and increase of the
state’s ecological security and lead to stable economy growth. One of such activity is
‘green business’. Through this study one can understand about the various green
business initiatives adopted by Wipro.
LITERATURE REVIEW

▪ Sustainable IT products solutions which helps customers achieve high productivity energy.
▪ Recycled plastics
▪ Launched greenware range of desktops which are 100% recyclable but also toxin free

▪ Wipro introduced an electronic waste clearance service in 2006 for its customers.
▪ Thirty-two percent of the water consumed in the campus is recycled; we have a target of 5
percent year-on-year reduction of fresh water per employee.
▪ Reduction of 1,200 tonnes of Green House Gasses (GHG)
▪ Wipro integrates sustainability into their business practices through employee engagement,
customer stewardship, procurement, supply chain, industry bodies and external stakeholders.
FINDINGS
Wipro aims to
•To reduce GHG emissions to 98 Kg per sq.mt of CO2 eq. by 2022 from a baseline metric of 117 Kg per sq. mt of CO2
eq. in 2016-17 Emissions reduction of 14% in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions.
•To improve water efficiency (fresh water use per employee) by 5% year on year.
• Reduce absolute water consumption in existing campuses by 20% between FY 2016 and FY 2021
•Ensure that not more than 5% of the total waste (by weight) generated by their internal operations reaches
landfills. Subgoals of continuing with 100% inhouse handling of organic waste and complete recycling of inorganic
waste.
•To convert five of their existing campuses to biodiversity zones
•Ensure all new campuses to incorporate biodiversity principles into their design

Other successfully accomplished initiatives include:


•35% of their India offices electricity is from renewable sources
•1 8 Green Buildings. 206 million units of Energy savings over last 10 years.
•41% of their water is recycled avoiding 9,775 Mn liters over last 10 years.
•574,110 tons of GHG emissions avoided over last 10 years
•3 campus biodiversity projects completed Butterfly and wetland park in Bengaluru with 106 species of plants and
multispecies garden in Pune campus with 300+ native species
•Only 3% of their solid waste is sent to landfill (excluding C&D)
SUGGESTIONS
1.The companies could network with other green focused companies and start a joint
venture promoting green business activities
2.Investing company funds in green energy development
3.Reuse office supplies whenever possible
4.Use various green marketing strategies
