CIDCO –

A. Establishment-

• City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO)

• Completely owned by the State Government.

• Established on 17th March 1970.

• notified by the State Government as the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) , later on delegated
responsibility as the Special Development Authority (SPA)

B. Committee framed by first M.D. of CIDCO with multi disciplinary framework.

Members were-

1) Mr. Shirish Patel –Civil Engineer, 2) Dr. Phiroze Medhora- Economist; 3) Dr. M. S. Gore – Social scientist ;

4) Mr. K. P. Battiwala – Engineer; 5) Mr. Vijay Tendulkar- Playwriter, 6)Mr. Charles Correa – Architect, 7)Dr.. Kirti
Parikh- Operations Research.
CIDCO –

C. OBJECTIVES –

• To reduce the growth rate of population in Greater Bombay;

• To attract some of Bombay’s population and absorb immigrants who would otherwise come to Bombay;

• To reduce traffic congestion and burden on Bombay’s physical infrastructure such as road transport, mass rapid
transportation system .

• To provide physical and social services which would raise living standards and reduce disparities in the amenities
available to different sections of the society.

• To provide an environment which permits the citizens of the proposed new city to live fuller and richer life, free
of physical and social tensions commonly associated with urban living;

• To facilitate efficient and rational distribution of industries over the State, balancing development of urban
centers in the hinterland;
CIDCO –

C. OBJECTIVES –

• To provide training and all possible facilities to the existing local people in the project area, to enable them to
adapt to the new urban setting and actively participate in the economic and social life of the new city.

D. CITY PLANNING-

1. NAVI MUMBAI-

• The Draft Development Plan (DPP) was submitted to the State Government on 10th October 1975 and was
subsequently approved. Navi Mumbai is planned for a population of 2 million with a potential to accommodate
another 1.5 to 2 million. It is estimated that the ultimate population may be of 3 to 4 million.

• polycentric pattern of planning and development of Navi Mumbai initially for 20 nodes, i.e. townships.

• Vashi was selected as the node for early development. Belapur was the second node to be taken up for the
development that started with Panvel Creek Bridge.
CIDCO –

• Gradually CIDCO developed 14 nodes of the city which are divided in North and South parts.

• The.

• 7 nodes fall in the North part Airoli, Kopar Khairane, Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul and CBD Belapur.

• Other 7 nodes are on the Southern part Kharghar, Kamothe, Kalamboli, Pushpak, Panvel, Ulwe and Dronagiri.

• As per GDCR, permissible FSI for Residential is 1.0.

• List of planning of new towns – New Aurangbad,New Latur, New Nanded, New Nashik, Meghdoot- New Nagpur,
Chikhaldara Hill Station, Walun Mahanagar, Oras-Sindhudurga, Khopta.

CONSULTANCY WORK-

• In March 2007 Chhattisgarh State appointed CIDCO to prepare the development plan of its 10 cities of Baloda Bazar,
Kharsia, Bhatapara, Sakti, Seepat, Khairagarh, Ahirwada, Kondagaon, Navpara Rajim and Saragarh. CIDCO completed
the works of final architectural plan, appointed contractors and gave advice for implementing the project.
CONSULTANCY WORK-

• The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust appointed CIDCO as planner for engineering design and marketing of plots of
about 2,500 hectare land belongs to it originally from Navi Mumbai periphery. CIDCO prepared the development
plan and submitted it to JNPT.

• Chhattisgarh, the 26th State of India which came into existence on 1st November 2000. The state government
established Naya Raipur Development Authority for the capital city which appointed CIDCO as Consulting Exper
