the most abused victims because of their weakness.
This is the main importance of the law. This is
not just any other law but specifically protects women and children. In most cases, domestic violence often happens in the Philippines but since these acts contemplated under the law before are so minute or light, there is no law which defines it under the Revised Penal Code. This was the scenario before and most likely, the victims have no option but to suffer in silence.
The main beauty of the law is it defines any
violence in whatever form. 1. Physical Violence which means any bodily harm. 2. SexualViolence which means whatever sexual acts committed to the woman or her child. 3. Psychological Violence which means any mental or emotional infliction whether caused by physical acts or omissions. 4. Economic Abuse which means any financial depravation which causes discomfort to the woman. With Physical and Sexual violence, these are not novel definitions because most of those enumerated under this provision are similar to the crimes under the Revised Penal Code. Another notable provision in the law is remedy given that of an immediate protection.
This makes the purpose of safeguarding the
rights of women possible. The victim under this law can secure a Permanent Protection Order ( PPO ) or Temporary Protection Order ( TPO ). There is also Barangay Protection Order in case you need to seek protection probably if your husband becomes violent at night and trial courts are not open these hours.
Both PPO and TPO
can only be secured in court. The law presents an alternative to women who remains helpless when confronted by her abusive spouse.
That even during the most impossible times, the
law still guarantees haven or shelter. The law provides safeguarding for women in even the most invisible effects.
Both economic and psychological violence are
only felt by a woman for whom before they will just suffer but right now it is given more importance.
