1 What is poetry?
In poetry the sound and meaning are combined
to express feelings, thoughts and ideas. Poetry
is usually written in lines.

2 What is the function of poetry?


the function of poetry is to convey
emotion or ideas to readers or
listeners mind or ears. it may also use
devices
3 The Kind of Poetry
The three main kinds of poetry are:
A. Lyric, poetry is the common type of poetry. Today.
Lyric poetry means any short poem

B. Narrative, Narrative poetry tell stories. There are


two kinds of of narrative poem Epic and ballads
1. Epic are long poems describing the deeds of
heroes in battle
2. Ballads tell shorter stories about particular person

C. Dramatic, dramatic poetry tells stories just like narrative


poetry, but in dramatic poetry. The poet less one more of
characters act out the stories
4 The Element of Poetry
There are five elements of poetry:
1. Rhythm in poetry means the flow of sound produce by a
language, give poetry a musical feel and can be fast or
slow depending on mood and subject
2. Rhyme is the repetition of similar sounds. In poetry, the
most common kind of rhyme is the end rhyme, which
occurs at the end of two or more lines. It is usually
identified with lower case letters, and a new letter is
used to identify each new end sound
3. Sound, poets usually use interesting sounds of word
4. Imagery refers to the sensation that language creates in
the mind, appeals to the five senses, those are regarding
to the smell, sight, hearing, taste and touch
5. Stanzas are a series of lines grouped together and
separated by an empty line from other stanzas. They are
the equivalent of a paragraph in an essay. One way to
identify a stanza is to count the number of lines.
