• Is the Term used to Describe the Balance that an Individual Needs Between Time

allocated For Work and other Aspects of Life.

• Area of Life Other Than Work Life Can be , but not limited to Personal Interests,

Family and Leisure Activities.

• Work Life Balance is Relationship between your work and the Commitments in

the rest of your life and how they impact one another
Definition of Work life balance

• Owen, Heck & Rowe(1995)explains that Work life balance refers to “Families or
Individuals who combine Lifestyle, well being and Income generating work under
the same roof”.

• According to Jim Bird, CEO of Worklifebalance.com ( an international work life


balance and Consulting Company) “Work life balance is meaningful Achievement
and enjoyment in everyday Life”.
Work life Practices/Types of Provisions that Multinational Organizations
consider for Addressing the needs of the business and needs of their
employees

1.Flexi time: allows employees, to determine (or be involved in determining) the


start and end times of their working day.

2.Telecommuting: It is becoming more and more common for people to do at least


some of their regular work from home instead of going into the office. This type of
arrangement is often called 'telework' or 'telecommuting’.

3.Part time work: Part time working is a system whereby the employee is
Contracted to work fewer than the Standard number of Contractual hours per day
4.Job sharing: is an arrangement which allows two (or sometimes more)
employees to jointly fill one fulltime job, with responsibilities and working
time shared or divided between them.

5.Health: Increase Health Consciousness by Providing more Information


about Good Exercise and Healthy Eating, and by providing Health Check-

Work life Balance Among women
Traditionally, women have been looked upon as nurturers and care givers and assigned all roles
related to maintaining and managing a family.

In urban India, the percentage of dual-earner couples is gradually increasing and for most
women and men today, their work environment and the family have become the two
important institutions in life.

Work-life balance assumes great significance for women as they are virtually in two full time
jobs - one at home and the other at office.

Working women have to carefully handle their personal balance and work

Factors affecting work life balance among women
1.Burden of excessive work: many women suffer from the burden of excessive work. They take up
multiple roles in their personal lives. working women have to spend long hours of work and
sometimes even carry their work home.

2.Interference of work with family life: There is work interference with family life. mostly work
hours are not limited to 7 or 8 hours a day and the private sector employees spend 12-16 hours at
work.

3.Fulfil others’ expectations: Women are under pressure to fulfil other’s expectations. , taking
multiple roles in both domains i.e work and family.

4.Longer work hours: Working women have to put in longer hours of work at work domain, and
also longer work hours at home as well.
Importance of Work Life Balance
• Work life balance Concept allows an employee to maintain a fine
balance in the time he or she gives to Work as Well as to personal
matters.

• Helps to increase productivity at workplace.

• It also allows the employee to give quality time with family to spend
vacations, leisure time, work on his or her health etc.
