Director’s Vision

Francois Truffaut (1954) asserts


that “the director is the
predominant artist and solitary
actor of the film.”
On Being the Captain of the Ship:
• Because he has all the supervision, from
the simplest to the most complex matter
in the in the movie production. (Ang,
2014)
• The director sees the perfect route to
destination.
Directing
• Giving the guidance and instructions to actor
and crew on the rehearsals and setting up of
equipment for a play or film (Soriano, 1995)
• Also referred to the over-all supervision of
production and performances. (Ang, 2014)
Functions and Responsibilities of a Director
• Gauges and improves the performance range of the
actors
• Coaches everyone how to play the scene
• Knows what the actors can do and cannot do to
express good performance
• Employs good judgement in choosing characters for
the right performance

• Must be a good communicator in order to give
instruction comprehensively.
• Instructs all technical talents to one particular set
up
• Must be familiar with the terminologies to
conveniently and immediately prompt actors for
execution

• Plans the camera positions and the set to be


taken
• Sees to it that all scenes are in sequence
• Should be explicitly authoritative
• Must be aware of the needs and desires of
staff and performers.
