WILLIAM II OF
ENGLAND
AND
HAROLD
GODWINSON
WILLIAM RUFUS
( 1087-1100 )
William II (Anglo-Norman) the third son of
William the Conqueror, become King of
Britan from 26 September 1087 until his
dying in 1100, with powers over Normandy,
and have an impact on in Scotland. He
became less a hit in extending control into
Wales. William is typically called William
Rufus (Rufus being Latin for "the purple"),
possibly because of his ruddy look or, more
likely, due to having crimson hair as a baby
that grew out in later life.
HAROLD
GODWINSON
( 1022-1066 )
Harold Godwinson
(c.1022-1066)
Harold Godwinson (c. 1022 – 14 October
1066), also known as Harold
II, become the final crowned Anglo-Saxon
king of England. Harold reigned from 6 January
1066 till his loss of life on the conflict of
Hastings, preventing the Norman invaders
led by William the Conqueror throughout the
Norman conquest of England. His loss of
life marked the give up of Anglo-Saxon rule over
England.
How both kings died
• King Harold II of England is defeated by the Norman forces of William the
Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings, fought on Senlac Hill, seven miles from
Hastings, England. At the end of the bloody, all-day battle, Harold was
killed–shot in the eye with an arrow, according to legend–and his forces
were destroyed.
• William died when he was shot by an arrow while out hunting. It was
accepted as an accident, but could have been an assassination. It has been
suggested that his alleged slayer, Walter Tirel, was acting under orders from
William's younger brother, Henry, who promptly seized the throne as Henry I.
Differences and Similarity

• William II was not married and had no children while Harold II was
married for 20 years and had 6 children. Both kings had similar
personalities, both of whom were good and intelligent kings. They
died in England at various times. Both Harlod II and William II were
important in the history of England.William II did not have very
important battles, he was known for causing historians to speculate
on homosexuality and bisexuality and Harold II fought in the Battle
of Hasting losing because the army was unprepared. Rufus is thought
to have been lacking in morality and piety. He over-indulged,
particularly in lust and alcohol.
