WORD OF THE EVENING

 It is derived from the old French term, chevalerie, which can be translated
as “horse soldiery”.
 Originally, the term referred only to horse-mounted men from the French
word for horse, cheval, but later it became associated with knightly
ideals.
CHIVALRY (NOUN)

Pronounced asˈShivəlrē
 mounted men-at-arms
 gallant or distinguished gentlemen
 the qualities of the ideal knight
 speech or behavior that is honorable and polite
CHIVALRY

Examples:

1. Gentlemen who were lucky enough to gain invites to the state dinner are
expected to act with the finest chivalry.
2. In an act of rare chivalry, the driver allowed several cars stopped at a
“yield” sign to go ahead.
