Khrushchev's reign was called a Thaw not only in the
political but also in the social life of the Soviet state.
Young people were very sensitive to new value
orientations , which began to adopt the views of the
West.

First World Festival of Youth
and Students
During the reign of the Khrushchev era held a
world festival of youth and students. It was
the first World Festival of Youth and Students
in the Soviet Union.
The festival was held for two
weeks, it became a
significant event for Soviet
boys and girls and the most
massive in its history.
The influence of the West led to

Stilyagi the formation of informal youth


subcultures. The most famous
was "Stilyagi".
They were fashionable and pretentious
dress, imitated foreign apparel, denied
the norms of Soviet morality. The
Stilyagi showed an increased interest
in American music and foreign dances.
Vending machines

The restaurant business affected the


changes in the development of the socio-
economic system of Russia. In the USSR
there were a variety of machines such as
vending machines, where you could get
soda water, sandwich, cake, beer.
Youth cafes

One of the next innovations in the field of catering


was the emergence of youth cafes, which differed
not only in the interior, but also the possibility of
cultural and educational leisure
Cafe "Youth"
These institutions were
in great demand. One of
the first cafes was
"Youth", which appeared
in 1961 in Moscow.
Tourism development
There were trips to the forest,
tent camps were opened, where
students spent their free time
in the company of their friends
and learned something new.
At the same time
Student groups developing student groups,
they massively go to the
camp and to the
construction site to meet
the adventure.
Summary

The period of Thaw contributed to


the development of youth
organizations, open camps, cafes,
organized congresses, and
generally improved the life of a
young people. There are youth
subcultures that deny the Soviet
system of society.

Khrushchev's social
policy was successful.
Despite his mistakes in
the economy and
relations with the West,
he organized a good life
for many young people
of that time.
