CIE GCSE Mathematics – PROBABILITY

paper may be used.

selected,what is the probability that number will be (a)even ?(b)greater than 3?(c) prime? (d) multiple of 4?

A card is drawn at random from a deck of cards. Find the probability of getting the 3 of
diamond.
And find the probability of getting a queen.

A family has three children. Find the probability of (a) all boys,(b)exactly two boys, (
c) all most two boys,(d) at least one girls.(e) at least one boy and one girl.

 Question 8
A jar contains 3 red marbles, 7 green marbles and 10 white marbles. If a
marble is drawn from the jar at random, what is the probability that this
marble is white?

 Question 9
The blood groups of 200 people is distributed as follows: 50 have
type A blood, 65 have B blood type, 70 have O blood type and 15 have
type AB blood. If a person from this group is selected at random, what is the
probability that this person has O blood type?

A die is rolled, find the probability that the number obtained is greater than 4.
b) Two coins are tossed, find the probability that one head only is obtained.
c) Two dice are rolled, find the probability that the sum is equal to 5.
d) A card is drawn at random from a deck of cards. Find the probability of getting
the King of heart.

 Question 11
Two coins are tossed, find the probability that two heads are obtained. Note: Each
coin has two possible outcomes H (heads) and T (Tails).

 Question 12
Rooms in a hotel are numbered from 1 to 19.Rooms are allocated at random as
guests arrive.
(a) What is the probability that the first guest to arrive is given a room which is a
prime number?
(b) The first guest to arrive is given a room which is a prime number.
What is the probability that the second guest to arrive is given a room which is a
prime number?

Claude goes to school by bus.


The probability that the bus is late is 0.1.
If the bus is late, the probability that Claude is late to school is 0.8.
If the bus is not late, the probability that Claude is late to school is 0.05.
(i) Calculate the probability that the bus is late and Claude is late to
school.
(ii) Calculate the probability that Claude is late to school.
(iii) The school term lasts 56 days.
How many days would Claude expect to be late?

Question 14

An unbiased cubical die has six faces numbered, 4, 6, 10 ,12, 15 and 24.
The die is thrown twice and the highest common factors (HCF) of both
result is recorded.
Draw a possibility diagram to show the possible outcome.
Calculate the proability that
 The HCF is 4
 The HCF is greater than 3
 The HCF is not 5
 The HCF is not 5
 The HCF is 3 or 5
 The HCF is equal to one of the numbers thrown.
Question 15

How many three digits numerals can be form from 3,5 and
9 without repeating any digit ? Find the probability of a
numeral which begins with 3.
