INTRODUCTION

• The scaling of device technologies has made possible

significant increases in the embedding of computing devices
in our surroundings.

• Electronic textiles or e-textiles are fabrics that
enable electronic components such as batteries, lights,
sensors, and microcontrollers to be embedded in them. They
are not to be confused with smart textiles, which are fabrics
that have been developed with new technologies that provide
added value. Many smart clothing, wearable technology,
and wearable computing projects involve the use of e-
textiles.
BENEFITS OF E TEXTILES

E textiles offers the following advantages:

• Flexible
• No wires to snag environment
• Large surface area for sensing
• Invisible to others
• Cheap manufacturing
PROPERTIES OF E – TEXTILES

• Electrical properties
• Mechanical properties

1. Flexibility
2. Sewability
3. Washability
RESEARCH WORKS
• Batteries from paper to cloth : Dipping and
drying procedure.

• Nano technology wearable E-textiles.

• Virginia Tech Computer Engineers with 30 foot

swath of fabric.
Applications of E-textiles

• To sense tank movements,

• To monitor homes for noxious chemicals
• For sensor network communications
• Physical therapy
• Act as batteries or chemical sensors
Future prospects

One of the probable future scenarios of e-textile is

that as the field of fibertronics becomes more
mature, the hybrid structures will include more
electronic functionality at the fiber level, until we
eventually end up with electronic textiles where
all advanced electronic function, such as
batteries, lightning, communication and
computing is all embedded in the textile fibers.
SUMMARY
CONCLUSION
• Over the past decade, electronics have been
shrinking in size and increasing in functionality.
• The idea for the most wearable system is to attach
technological components to the textile in which
transmission lines and connectors are embedded.
• Because the electronics are attached and detached
freely, they can be protected from the physical
stresses of laundering.
FUTURE SCOPE
• Weather proof and Water Proof System.
• Smart textiles for children
• Commercialisation
• Automatic Calibrations
• Data can be sent to third party like doctor via
smart phone or tablet.
