 BACKGROUND
IMU Mumbai Port campus had two libraries, MERI (Marine
Engineering & Research Institute) Library and LBSCAMSAR (Lal
Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research)
Library. These two libraries were merged into one Central IMU-MPC
Library. The Library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of
documents that is useful for the Faculty, Cadets, and Students in
their education and research activities in the University or even
outside. The major objective of the library is to acquire useful
information and process /organize to make it available to the users.

• The library has a collection more than of 15,000 documents consisting of books and
manuals, ship drawings, articles, project reports, standards, reports, national and
international periodicals, bound volumes, CD/DVDs and e-resources.
• The library has been automated with the help of KOHA software and has developed its
Institutional Repository (Digital Library) on DSpace for providing better and fast
service to the cadets and faculty.
• The Library services / facilities include Circulation Service, Reference Service, Online
reservation of books, Recommendation of library material, Photocopying / Printing
Service, CAS and SDI Service, ILL, and Audio Visual Service.
• Library timing are 08:00 AM to 08:00 PM, Monday – Saturday .

Circulation - Library materials are borrowed and returned at the circulation

desk, which is located near the main entrance. Reserved books, audio-visual
material, periodicals, reference books and CDs / DVDs can be used with in library.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) - Online Public Access Catalogue
(OPAC) or simply a Library Catalogue is a digital database of materials such as
text files, e-books, journals, etc. held by a IMU-MPC Central Library. Patrons can
use the online library cataloguing software to find out any item under control of a
library. It displays the query search results in an easy-to-understand format to
enable patrons to find digital material quickly.

Institutional Repository (Digital Library)- This IR has been created on

DSpace platform to collect, preserve and distribute the Faculty and Cadets output
of Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus. This will work as an
important tool to facilitate scholarly communication and preserve the institutional
knowledge. The IMU-MPC Library has developed the Repository for the
dissemination and preservation of knowledge of IMU-MPC community.

Reference Service - Library provides reference and referral service to its

users. Queries are answered using all possible sources. If the required
information is not available / accessible at IMU MPC Library, the users are
referred to other libraries where the required information may be available.
E-Resources - The library has 08 User Terminals to access internet, online
journals and other databases. One PC is restricted to access online/web catalogue
of the library.

Reprographic service - Photocopying and printing facility is available in the
Hostel under the supervision of Wardens. Cadets can get the photocopy of
required documents from reference materials. (like reference books,
encyclopaedias, dictionaries, journals and magazines etc.) 
DDS/e-DDS Service - During COVID-19 pandaemic, the IMU-MPC Library
has started Document Delivery Service for Cadets and Faculty. The requested
document is delivered to Faculty and Cadets at their residence. The supply of
document, either original or its copy, in print or in electronic form, to the user on
demand. The Library sent the text books for session 2020-2021 of B.Tech Cadets
at home by courier (India Post).
