Horizontal Fragmentation Correctness
Rules
• Any fragmentation must satisfy the following
rules as defined by ¨ Ozsu [ ¨ Ozsu99]:
– Rule 1: Completeness. Decomposition of R into R1,
R2, ... , Rn is complete if and only if each data item
in R can also be found in some Ri.
– Rule 2: Reconstruction. If R is decomposed into R1,
R2, ... , Rn, then there should exist some relational
operator, , such that “R = 1≤i≤n Ri.”
– Rule 3: Disjointness. If R is decomposed into R1,
R2, ... , Rn, and di is a tuple in Rj, then di should not
be in any other fragment, such as Rk, where k = j.
