1. The Definition of
Modal Auxiliary
Modal auxiliary is a helping verb that comes
before the main verb and is used to modify
the meaning of the main verb.
Function:
Modal Auxiliary is used to express:
 Willingness
ex: Will you help me?
 Possibility
ex : I may help you this time
 Ability
ex: I can do the test quickly
 Permission
ex: May I go to the toilet?
 Obligation
ex: I must meet the dean
now.
