• Unsatisfied demand exceeds available quantity for

incoming supply of material

Ex:
• A WIP job with no components / material supply
• A sales order is considered overdue when the pick
wave move order is unfulfilled (backordered).

• Review Material Shortage parameters

• Review if Transaction Types are enabled for online
alerts / notifications.
• Confirm, if you are able to see any of the below
i) Shortage alert on the Inventory Transactions form
ii) Shortages displayed on the "View Potential Shortages" form.
iii) Shortage notifications sent to Planner / Buyer
• Shortages for sales orders are reported only if the
allocation process is unable to locate enough material
to fulfill the move order line, a shortage situation
exists. (Order line would be in ‘Backordered’ status)

• Shortages for Sales Orders / Finished Goods, would

be reported on View Potential Shortages form (OR)
Shortage Summary Report. You will not be able to
view Form Alerts as the transaction types involved
here can't be enabled for receiving the same.

• Notifications would be generated after running the

"Shortages Summary report" with Send Notifications =
'Yes'.
 Troubleshooting – Cont’d

• View potential shortage form, shows all the WIP+OE

demand depending on the Shortage parameters
definition, only if the total available quantity less than
the total open WIP+OE demand.

• Table MTL_SHORT_CHK_TEMP holds records

temporarily based on the query on View Potential
Shortages form, and these are deleted when the form
is closed.

• EAM work orders are not considered for shortages.
