Neurosurgeons are physicians who diagnose and provide surgical treatment for
nervous system disorders. The education required to become a neurosurgeon is
extensive and highly specialized and gives them the knowledge and skills to treat
problems in the central and peripheral nervous system that can include strokes,
tumors, traumas and congenital abnormalities.
A neurosurgeon's career is both physically and intellectually challenging. They are
experts in surgery and diagnostics. A neurosurgeon works with neurologists or
nonsurgical brain experts and other health care professionals to decide on a
comprehensive plan of care for their patients.
