Solar System

Sun
• The Sun is a 4.5 billion-year-old yellow
dwarf star – a hot glowing ball of
hydrogen and helium – at the center of
our solar system. It's about 93 million
miles (150 million kilometers) from
Earth and it's our solar system's only
star. Without the Sun's energy, life as we
know it could not exist on our home
planet.
what is a planet ???

(a)A planet is a celestial body that is in

orbit around the Sun, has sufficient
mass for its self-gravity to overcome
rigid body forces so that it assumes a
hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round)
shape, and has cleared the
neighborhood around its orbit.
Earth
Earth is the third planet from the Sun
and the only astronomical object known
to harbor life. While large amounts of
water can be found throughout the
Solar System, only Earth sustains liquid
surface water. About 71% of Earth's
surface is made up of the ocean,
dwarfing Earth's polar ice, lakes and
rivers.
