GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

Isolation TECHNIQUES
MODULE 7
TOPIC LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the activity, the students are expected to:

- Perform streak, pour and spread plate techniques for the
isolation of microorganisms.
- Describe the distribution of colonies from each plating
method.
- Characterize types of isolates that can be grown from each
technique.
BACTERIA EXIST IN MIXED
POPULATIONS.

• In order to adequately study and

characterize an individual bacterial species,
one needs a pure culture.
PURE CULTURE
• Bacterial suspension consisting of a single
species.
