This activity is called :”BASIC WELDING COMPETITION” with the theme “PREPETING
PROFESSIONAL WELDING PERSONNEL IN THE INDUSTRIAL WORLD ”
 BACKGROUND
Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by using high heat to
melt the parts together and allowing them to cool, causing fusion. Welding is an important process from both a
commercial and technological perspective, because :
- Welding is a permanent connection
- Dap welding joint at is stronger than the parent metal, when a filler metal is used which has greater strength
than the parent metal
- Welding is the most economical method in terms of material use and fabrication costs. Mechanical assembly
method other nik need additional work (for example, drilling holes) and joint fasteners (for example, rivets and
bolts);
- Welding can be done in the factory or in the field
 Welding competition is based on the type of connection of a plate that has been provided by the competition
committee. The types of joint welding include 'CORNER JOINT' and 'TEE JOINT’

For welding the first type of connection there are several assessments that must be met, namely the two parts
of the object to be joined to form a right angle or 90 degrees and is connected at the end of the angle and the
welded joint path is flat

For the second type of welding competition by joining the two T-shaped plates, for example, one part is placed
perpendicular to the other and form an inverted T with some of the same rating classifications as the first
 purpose

The objectives of holding a basic reasoning competition are:

- To hone and improve the competitive mentality of the participants.
- Measuring the achievement of welding competence of Polytechnic/Vocational Higher Education students
referring to national and/or international standards.
- As a material for the development and training of welding competence programs for industrial needs.
- Encouraging interest in welding expertise in meeting the demand for labor in the welding sector for both
domestic and foreign industries.
- To recruit talented human resources in the welding field.
