Its origin
It appeared for the first time in Spain during the period when they were invaded by Arab
communities.

A book published in the year one thousand five hundred and twenty mentions the
preparation of seafood empanadas and today the Empanada Festival is part of the Spanish
culture.

At the same time, it is thought that the Spaniards may have adopted this preparation from the
Arab culture. In its gastronomy, there are some breads stuffed with lamb meat and spices.
How empanadas
arrived in Mexico
The history of empanadas in Mexico dates back to
colonial times, in the sixteenth century, to be a little more
precise.
The nuns of the viceregal era were the pioneers of several
typical Mexican preparations.

They were made both sweet and savory, some with tuna,
sardine or even cod filling, and others filled with seasonal
fruit jam.
