ENERGY RESOURCES

• Energy resources are all forms of fuels used in the modern

world, either for heating, generation of electrical energy, or
for other forms of energy conversion processes.
• The sun is the primary source of energy for our lives. The
plants depends on sunlight for their growth.
• Energy sources are of three types: Renewable,Non-
renewable and Alternative energy resources
MAJOR CATEGORIES OF SOURCE OF ENERGY

1. Animate energy – Energy obtained from living organisms. In

early times men produced energy with his muscles and later
from horses,donkeys,and camels etc
2. Inanimate energy – This energy is derived from non living
organisms. Man Started generating electricity by using falling
water to drive turbines
• Renewable energy sources are those which are inexhaustible and
can be used to generate power continuously
• These energy systems use resources that are constantly replaced
and are usually less polluting
• Renewable energy resources include wind energy , solar energy ,
tidal energy, biogas , hydro electric power etc
SOLAR ENERGY

• Sun gives us energy in the form of

solar radiations.
• These heat or electricity which can be
utilised by men by converting it into
other forms of energy such as heat or
electricity
• Today we have developed several methods of
collecting solar energy for heating water, generating
electricity, cooking food etc
• This energy resources is non exhaustible and is
available throughout the year.
• It is free from any pollution.
WIND ENERGY

• India is the third largest wind energy

producer in the world.
• It is a renewable sources of energy
• Wind energy conversion devices like wind
turbines are used for converting wind energy
into mechanical energy
• Wind power has a much smaller impact on
the environment than burning fossil fuels .
BIO GAS

• Biogas is produced from plant

material,animal waste,garbage waste etc
• It is a mixture of gases which includes
methane,carbon dioxide, hydroge sulphide
and water vapour
• Here the residue is used as an agricultural
fertilizers.
• It is used as a fuel for cooking purposes.
• Burning of these produces gases like carbon dioxide, oxides
of sulphur, nitrogen and carbon monoxide. All of these
gases cause air pollution in the environment.
• Non renewable sources of energy like oils and minerals will
be exhausted within 50 years,if we continue to extract these
without a concern for subsequent generation
• Alternative energy refers to energy sources other than fossil
fuels and includes all renewable and nuclear energy.
• The major advantage of alternative Energy sources is that it
won’t run out.
• Another advantage is that many of them do not require the
same damaging and expensive extraction techniques,as
much of it is available to us here on the surface
• Some of the alternative energy sources are:
1. Wind energy
2. Solar energy
3. Nuclear energy
4. Tidal energy
5. Bio fuels
CONCLUSION

• Energy plays a crucial role in modern societies. It has a

vital input to all sectors and is essential to generate
electricity. In other words, all societies requires energy
services to meet basic human need such as lighting,
heating and mobility
