The learning objectives:

 Students are able to analyze a song to find its


theme.
 Students are able to get some information
related to a song.
 Students are able to listen to a song to find the
missing words.
What is a song?
 It is a short musical composition of words and
music.
 The social purpose of songs is to entertain the
listeners, and even teach them moral values that
are hidden in the lyrics.
 Songs are also media to express feelings.
What are the language features of songs?

 Images are used to describe feelings and


emotions.
 Rhythm is used to create the mood of the song.
 Figure of speech is used to express an
experience of life.
What are the contents of a song?

 Verse: It is the main part of a song that tells a


story.
 Refrain/chorus: It is a part of a song that is
repeated. The rhythm of this part is distinctive
from the verse.
 Coda (optional): It is a line that closes a song.
Some Types of song:
 National anthem: the official song of a country,
which is sung or played on public occasions.
 Hymn: a religious song that is usually sung in
a church.
 Carol: a traditional christmas song.
 Folk song : a traditional song from a particular
area.
 Ballad:  a long folk song which tells a story.
 Lullaby: a slow quiet song sung to children to make
them go to sleep.
