THE REPORTED SPEEH
The indirect or reported speech style is the way in which you can
tell, explain, write or say something in your own words, changing
the verb tense to the past.

So it is a structure that is used when we want to tell a person what

another has told us, The indirect speech is what the person said, the
reported speech is the repetition of what he said with different
words.

Reported speech is the exact meaning of what a person said, but not
the exact words. In the reported speech we use (that) and it can be
amitted after the introductory verbs, say, tell and suggest etc

Note: The direct speech is what the person said, the reported speech
is the repetition of what
he said with different words.
When we use will in the direct speech, the reported speech goes with
‘’would’’
When we use ‘’can’’ in the direct speech, the reported speech goes
with ‘’could’’

(Carmen) I will call my friends later - She said that she would call her
friends later
(Pedro) I will not talk to you anymore - He said that he would not talk
to me anymore

( Marcos) I can do the homework without blinking - He said that he

could do the homework…
( Lauren) I can look after your kids while you’re out – She said that
she could look after my kids…

Note: You can use ‘’tell, ‘’say’’ when the person is speaking to you
( She said to me that she could stay here or She told me that she could
stay here)
