Vitamin D deficiency in chronic kidney

disease
• In CKD reduce calcitriol due to deficiency of 1 alpha
hydroxylase enzyme activity.
• As a result increase parathyroid hormone levels.
• Act to increase plasma calcium levels.
• Called secondary Hyperparathyroidism.
• It leads to excessive mobilisation of bone mineral.
• Hypercalcemia, Hypercalciuria ,
Hyperphosphatemia.
• Renal stones formation.
• Osteoporosis of the bone.
• Vascular calcification.

Result in hyperthyroid hyperplasia.


Increase risk of falls and fractures.
