A career is a sequence of positions held by
a person during the course of a lifetime
It comprises of a series of work related
activities that provide continuity, order and
meaning to a person’s life.
Subjective aspect of career
In subjective sense it refers to where one is
going in one’s work life.
It refers to the changes in values. Attitudes
and motivation that occurs as a person
grows older
Features of career
It develops over time
It is the individual who ultimately must judge the
success of his career.
The important element in one’s career is
experiencing psychological success which
basically is feeling a sense of personal
accomplishment and fulfillment.
Today the typical career of a person includes
many different positions, transitions and
organisation

What is career planning?
Career planning is a deliberate attempt by
an individual to become more aware of his
or her skills, interests, values, opportunities,
choices and consequences.
It involves identifying carrer-related goals
and establishing plans for achieving those
goals.
What is career management
Career management is considered to be an
organizational process that implements and
monitors career plans undertaken by individuals
alone or within the organization's career system.
Objectives of career planning
Attract and retain talent by offering careers, not
jobs
Use human resources effectively and achieve
greater productivity
Reduce employee turnover
Improve employee morale and motivation
Meet the immediate and future human resource
needs of the organization on a timely basis.
