 Operation of the Internet
INTERNET
What is the Internet?
 The Internet is a publicly accessible global information system
consisting of interconnected computer networks.. This system
transmits information based on a standardized  internet protocol
(IP protocol).
 The Internet carries a wide range of information resources and
services, using the application of hypertextlinked together
according to the World Wide Web
The Birth of the Internet
 The predecessor of the Internet was the ARPANET network of the
US Department of Defense, which was born in 1969
 The term Internet was born in 1974
 In 1991, the World Wide Web (WWW) was invented by Tim
Berners Lee (European Center for Atomic Research). This milestone
ushered in an era of hypertext, making it easier for people to
access and exchange information.
Internet in Vietnam
 November 19 year 1997 is the first day Vietnam  was integrated
into the global Internet
 Previously, Rob Hurle, a professor at Australian National
University  (ANU), presented his idea to Vietnamese students who
had studied in Australia  and brought a "modem" as big as a
"brick". Vietnam in 1991 for testing
 To access the Internet, VNPT, Netnam and some other companies
act as ISPs (Internet service providers) in Vietnam.
Statistics
 Social networking platforms with the most users
Internet connection
 There are 2 basic forms of connection
 Register services with ISPs (Internet Service Providers), which are Internet
service providers such as FPT, VNPT, Viettel, ...
 Using 4G and 5G services: Use on mobile devices with SIM cards, and
register with VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel, ...
SERVICES ON THE INTERNET
Services on the Internet
 Web Services
 Email service
 Chat service
 Search service
 Social network
 Webinar
 Online storage service
…
Web Services
 The Web was one of the first Internet services and is the most
commonly used service today. It allows you to view hypertext
document pages (web pages) on the Internet.
 To view the website, your computer needs a web browser
Web Services
 Each website will have a domain name to be accessed with a web
browser
Example: https://caodang.fpt.edu.vn

Domain
Protocols
name

 Protocols: http, https, ftp, …

 Domain name: Ends with .com, .vn, .com.vn, .net, edu.vn, ...
Email service
 Email is an acronym for Electronic Mail, which means E-mail.
This is a method of exchanging (sending – receiving)
correspondence via the internet
 Email  was first created in the 1960s but has only very limited use.
When the internet is more developed, the demand for email also
increases
Chat service
 Online chat (online chat) simply means "the act of exchanging
information between two people or groups of people, from
computer to computer at the same time, over a network (LAN,
WAN, Internet).
 The first known online chat system is Talkomatic, built by Doug
Brown and David R. Woolley in 1973 on a computer network at
the University of Illinois, USA.
 The current popular chat services: Zalo, Viber, Facebook
Messenger, ...
Search service
 It is a service that opens up a great store of knowledge on the
Internet.
 It is difficult for you to remember all the websites that contain
information or look up information to each detailed subpage.
 Fortunately, tools have assisted us with these tasks.
 Search toolsGoogle
 Bing
 Yahoo
 Baidu
 Yandex

Social Networking Service
 A social network service is a service that connects members with
the same interests on the  Internet  together for different
purposes regardless of space and time.
 People who participate in social networking services are called
 netizens.
 Famous social networks:
 Facebook, Twitter: Social network to connect with friends.
 LinkedIn: A social network that connects jobs and jobs.
 Youtube: Video social network.
 Pinterest: A photo social network especially for designers.
 Instagram: A social network that favors images and copyrights.

Webinar
 VISHIPEL's online conference service (HNTT) is a service that uses
Internet infrastructure to transmit video and audio signals between
two or more points in different geographical locations.
 In the context of the covid pandemic at the beginning of 2020,
webinars have re-emerged as a perfect solution for businesses and
educational institutions. Can conduct meetings, seminars and
teaching
 Webinar platforms
 Google Meet
 Zoom
 CISCO Webex Meetings
 Skype
…
Online storage service
 These days, storing data on computers is no longer safe.
 To keep data safe, Internet users have many solutions to store
their data on the Internet.
 Secured data storage on the Internet
 Anytime, Anywhere Access
 Access on various platforms
 No worries about data loss
 Collaborative work (many people work on 1 file)
 Cons: Online storage is likely to be attacked and stolen by hackers
Online storage service
 Online storage service
 Google Drive
 Dropbox
 One Drive
 Mega
 Box

INTERNET AND NETWORK
EQUIPMENT
What is Computer Network?
 A "network or computer network" is a combination of "computers"
together through connected devices "networks" and
communication media (network protocol, transmission medium)
according to a certain structure.
 The essence is to help computers exchange information with each
other.
Benefits of computer networks
 Share your files with other users
 Sharing resources in a system. Save system resources
 Example: A company only needs to use 1 network printer that the whole
company can use to print
 Access resources from other machines. Helps to shorten the
distance in terms of geographical location
Types of computer networks
 There are 4 main types
 Local Area Network
 Wide Area Network
 Intranet
 Internet
…
Types of computer networks
 Local Area Network, commonly known as LAN
 Used in certain limited area, high transmission speed.
 Example: Home network, in the same building, a company…
 Computers will connect wired or wireless to a device called a Switch
Types of computer networks
 Wide Area Network commonly known as WAN
 WAN is a wide area network that connects computers within a
range of buildings, cities or a country, a territory or between
territories in a continent by telecommunications or satellite
signals.
 The feature of a WAN network is to hire a service provider's
transmission line to connect between many locations.
Types of computer networks
 Intranet is an intranet for
employees in a company or an
organization to build and share
internal information with each
other.
 Intranet network needs high
security because all information
is confidential, often used for
large corporations, government
organizations.
 Intranet is a private network
using Internet protocols,
connecting to the network
Types of computer networks
 The Internet is the largest, publicly accessible, worldwide network
of small interconnected networks of computers
 The Internet has no single centralized governance organization in
implementing technology or policies for access and use
 Currently, the number of people using the Internet is about 4.66
billion people
NETWORK EQUIPMENT
Network devices
 In order for computers to communicate with each other, network
devices are required.
 These devices help computers connect to each other and access
the Internet
 Switch
 Router
 Modem
 Access Point
Network devices
 Switch: more connectivity is possible depending on the number of
ports available on this device. The main function of the Switch
device is to transfer data from one computer to another and
transfer the signal to the Modem.
Network devices
 Router: is a router or router used to transfer data packets across
an internetwork to end devices, through a process called routing.
Network devices
 Modem: known as the cluster modulator and demodulator, it
means a modem, is a hardware device that allows a computer to
send and receive data over a telephone line, cable or satellite
connection
 The modem is the device that communicates with the network of
Internet service providers (ISPs).
 Most stand-alone modems have only 2 ports, one to connect to
the Internet from your ISP and one Ethernet jack to connect to a
computer or router.
Network devices
 Access Point: is a device that creates a local wireless network,
usually in an office or large building.
 An access point is a station that transmits and receives data.
 You can call them wifi transceivers.
WEB BROWSER
WEB BROWSER
 A web browser can be understood as a software or application
that allows users to view and interact with the content on the
website including text, images, videos, effects...
 Popular web browsersChrome
 Cốc Cốc
 Safari
 Firefox
 Edge
 Opera
 Internet Explorer
