INTRODUCTION TO BASIC
SCIENCTIFIC METHOD

WHAT IS SCIENCE?
SCIENCE
- the intellectual and
practical activity
encompassing the
systematic study of
the structure and
behavior of the
physical and natural
world through
observation and
experiment.
A scientist is someone who
systematically gathers and uses
research and evidence, to make
hypotheses and test them, to
gain and share understanding
and knowledge. A scientist can
be further defined by: how they
go about this, for instance by
use of statistics (statisticians)
or data (data scientists).
SCIENTIFIC METHOD

• is the process of objectively

establishing facts through testing
and experimentation.
The scientific method has five
basic steps, plus one feedback
step:
1.Make an observation.
2.Ask a question.
3.Form a hypothesis, or
testable explanation.
4.Make a prediction based on
the hypothesis.
5.Test the prediction.
6.Iterate: use the results to
make new hypotheses or
predictions
