A healthy heart is important as it’s central to overall good health. Embracing a healthy
lifestyle at any age can prevent heart disease and lower your risk for a heart attack or
stroke. Here are some ways to keep your heart healthy :
1. Eat a heart healthy diet
The food pyramid is the perfect example of a heart healthy diet. If each your meals are
planned in proportion with the healthy eating pyramid then you are much more likely to
achieve your daily requirements for vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins and
essential fats.
2. Increase regular physical activity to at least 2.5 hours per week
Physical activity contributes to improved blood pressure, improved levels of cholesterol
and other blood lipids, and weight control. Some physical activity is better than none.
3. Don’t use tobacco
Tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke are harmful to your heart. Quitting
tobacco use is the biggest gift of health you can give your heart and has immediate and
long-term health benefits.
