Sole Trader Business
 A sole Trader is also know as a Sole Proprietor
and is a type of business that is owned and
operated by one person.
 The Sole Trader is very easy and inexpensive to
set up and the Sole Trader is responsible for all
aspects of the business.
 Two examples of Sole Trader are: LG Jewelry
and Lindz Handmade Treasures.
 Two advantages are: profits are not shared and
very easy to start up.
 Two disadvantages are: there is limited sources
of funds and there is no continuity – if owner
dies, the business dies.

Partnership
 Partnership is a type of business where two or
more persons share ownership, responsibility of
managing the business, and the income or losses
that the business generates.
 The organizational structure of a Partnership
includes a minimum of two or more partners and
a maximum of 20 partners.
 Two examples of Partnership business are:
Special Effects and Belmopan Aggregates and
Hardware.
 Two advantages are: partners share risk and low
start up cost.
 Two disadvantages are: possible conflict among
partners and slower decision making.

Public Limited Companies
 A Public Company is a type of business that is able
to offer its shares to the public. It requires
minimum of two directors and one secretary.
 The organizational Structure of a Public Limited
Company consists of a minimum membership of one
member and there is no maximum.
 Two examples of Public Limited Companies are:
Belize Electricity Limited and Belize Telemedia
Limited.
 Two advantages are: Easy availability of capital by
issuing shares to the public and limited liability to
shareholder.
 Two disadvantages are: higher level of
transparency required and there are ownership and
control issues.

Private Limited
Companies
 A Private Limited Company is owned completely by
a small group of people or other entities that
provide capital. The owners of the private limited
companies are known as shareholders.
 The organizational structure of a Private Limited
Company comprises of at least one shareholder
and one director who may be the sole shareholder.
 Two examples of Private Limited Companies are:
Builders Hardware Ltd and G.A & Roe Sons Ltd.
 Two advantages are: limited liability and business
continuity.
 Two disadvantages are: there is often more
paperwork and it can be very time consuming to
set up.

Non Trading Organizations
o Non Trading Organizations are simply non-profit
making entities that exist solely for the betterment
of the society by providing quality services.
o The organizational structure of a Non Trading
Organization is normally governed by a Board of
Directors, followed by persons in the functional
areas which are governance, program, and
administration or simply an executive director.
o Two examples of Non Trading Organizations are:
Helpage Belmopan and The Kings Children Home.
o Two advantages are: they are eligible for
government and private grants and tax exemptions.
o Two disadvantages are: they sometimes have a
difficult time to get grants and donations to start an
activity and sometimes it is hard to get volunteers to
help achieve the organizational mission.

Cooperative Society
 A Cooperative Society is an association established
for the purpose of providing services on a non profit
basis to its shareholders or members who own and
control it.
 The organizational structure of a Cooperative
Society is owned and controlled by its members.
 Two examples of a Cooperative Society are: Belize
Fishermen Cooperative Association and Placencia
Producers Cooperative.
 Two advantages are: voluntary organization –
anyone with common interest can join and they
enjoy fair price and good quality.
 Two disadvantages are: conflict among members
and lack of accountability.
