Growth Performance and Survival rate of African
Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) Using Three Different
Formulated Feeds

Feed Formulation Using Threadfin

Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha as a
Protein Source in Fish Meal
Threadfin Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha).
African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus).
Background of the study:

• Protein is the most expensive bulk raw material in fish

feed formulation and the most essential nutrient needed
for the growth performance, survival, and fish yield.

• Finding substitutes to common sources of protein in

formulating fish meal has become an absolute necessity
in order to reduce cost in operating aquaculture farms
without affecting the growth performance and survival
rate of the cultured species: African Catfish (Clarias
gariepinus).
Research Objective

Specific Objectives:
• What is the efficacy of using the formulated fish meal out
of Threadfin Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha) to the
growth performance and survival rate of African Catfish
*
(Clarias gariepinus)

• The study aims to achieve maximum growth

performance and survival rate of African Catfish through
the feed formulation made from Threadfin Cardinalfish as
a substitute fish meal.
Statement of the Problem:

• Specifically this research is conducted in order to

determine the growth performance and survival rate
of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus), by making fish
meal out of a non-common low- value fish: Threadfin
Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha).

• To determine the survival rate of African Catfish

(Clarias gariepinus).
Statement of the Problem:

• Is there a significant difference in the growth and

survival rate of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
using different formulated feeds.
Significance of the study:

• The study aims to provide a sustainable, low-cost fish

meal from non-common low-value fish.

• The study aims to achieve maximum growth

performance and survival rate of African Catfish
through the feed formulation made from Threadfin
Cardinalfish as a substitute fish meal.
Scope and Delimitations:

• The study will focus on the fish meal formulation Using Threadfin
Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha) as the protein source.

• The study will also focus on the growth performance and survival
rate of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) using the formulated
fish meal out of Threadfin Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha).

• Threadfin Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha) in Masinloc

Zambales Coastal Waters

• The study will be conducted on April to June 2022.

Research Methods and Procedure

Research design: Quantitative and Qualitative Research

• This is an experimental research approach and method which

provide results that are applicable, improve the efficacy of
resource use and diminish the risks of inference in decision
making in feed formulation using threadfin cardinalfish (Zoramia
leptacantha) as a protein source in fish meal.
Location of the Study

• The experimental research will be conducted at Sinabacan,

Candelaria, Zambales in the school premises of President Ramon
Magsaysay State University Candelaria Campus Aquaculture
Laboratory.
Data Gathering Procedure

• In data gathering, we will be using the observation method of data

collection of which the researchers study the behavior of the
cultured species to the formulated feeds we made.
1) Mortality
2) Growth
 Length
 Width
• We will also use the Pearson Square Method to calculate the
portion of two feedstuff needed to meet protein or energy
requirements of our cultured species.
Statistical Treatment (For Quantitative Research)

• We will be using the Pearson Square Method to calculate the

portion of two feedstuff needed to meet protein or energy
requirements of our cultured species.
